The show debuted in 1972 as "The NEW Price is Right" hosted by the legendary Bob Barker. The show is taped in Studio 33, now known as the Bob Barker Studio at Television City in Hollywood.

The Price is Right is a British game show based on the US version of the same name. It originally aired on ITV from 24 March 1984 to 8 April 1988 and was hosted by Leslie Crowther. The show later briefly moved to Sky One for one series as The New Price is Right from 4 September 1989 to 31 August 1990 with Bob Warman as the host.

It returned to ITV, as Bruce's Price is Right, from 4 September 1995 to 16 December 2001 with Bruce Forsyth hosting for seven series, and again on the same channel from 8 May 2006 until 12 January 2007, this time hosted by Joe Pasquale. Two one-off specials aired as part of ITV's Gameshow Marathon in September 2005 and April 2007.

On 30 December 2017, it was revived for a one-off pilot hosted by Alan Carr on Channel 4. In 9 June 2017, Carr was announced as the new host.

Kinda messed up the UK version didn't last long...

The problem in the uk is people get board of things to easy.

I mean look at big brother that was great when it come out now i hate it. channel 5 took it over and it got bad from the start

It's been three seasons since I posted about The Price is Right. On Monday, The Longest Running Game Show in History will launch its 50th season on the CBS Television Network! 50. Years. On. CBS. Also, on September 30th, there will be a 50th Anniversary Special as well!

Just finished watching the Season 50 Premiere of The Price is Right.  We have an audience again since we didn't have one for all of Season 49.  Like Let's Make a Deal, The Price is Right audience is (as Wayne Brady would describe about the LMAD audience) tiny but mighty.

Today we opened up with a contestant having a shot at $1 million playing Pay The Rent.  He ended up with the more common top prize of $100,000.   That would be the biggest win of the day.  We also had a car winner (a $23,067 2021 Toyota CHR LE) and the surprise of the day for this fan was a winner of a swimming pool.  Now I get winning an ordinary swimming pool, but with a price tag of $48,700?!?  Wow!

The Showcase winner won a Frozen Concoction Maker (Margaritaville: frozen machine), a Trip to Riviera Maya (RT Coach to Cancun, MX then to Riviera Maya for a 7n all-inclusive stay Sensira Resort and Spa + RT airport transportation, 1 massage each) and a 2021 SunTracker Bass Buggy 18 DLX (75HP motor, Bluetooth stereo, trailer).  That winner bid $36,500.  The Actual Retail Price (ARP) was $36,950 with a difference of only $450!  That's how you start the season in my opinion!

For years, I have heard "loyal" fans of The Price is Right slam Drew Carey for not being like Bob Barker as host. This is an article from People Magazine that is evident of my theory that when someone takes over an iconic hosting position, they would have enormous shoes to fill. When Drew Carey took over The Price is Right hosting duties from Bob Barker in 2007, emulating him wasn't an option.

"I knew I could never be Bob, and I wasn't going to try to be Bob," says the 63-year-old star of The Drew Carey Show, which ran from 1995 to 2004. "We went out to lunch, and his advice was 'Don't try to copy me. Just make it your own show.' "

That's exactly what Carey has done with the classic that first aired from 1956 to 1965 before being reimagined and relaunched in 1972 with Barker as host.

For the last 14 years, Carey has been at the helm of what is now television's longest-running game show, and he's handed out millions in cash and prizes — a part of the job he says never gets old.

"That's the best when people win," he says. "It makes me look forward to coming into work."

Next season of The Price Is Right (premiering Sept. 13) marks the show's 50th anniversary. For Carey, the upcoming season will be his 15th.

"There are so many things that have happened in my personal life while I've been on this show," he says. "My son Connor is 16 now, and I've watched him grow up. In a lot of ways, I feel like I've been here my whole life."

The Price Is Right airs weekdays on CBS (check local listings).
